Model beam scatter in your environmental or low-vacuum SEM

Electron Flight Simulator, version E contains all the standard features of Electron Flight Simulator plus the ability to see beam scatter in an environmental or low-vacuum SEM.

When a gas is introduced into the chamber of an environmental or low-vacuum SEM, the gas molecules cause the beam to scatter. The higher the chamber pressure or the longer the working distance, the more the electron beam will scatter.  This scattering generates X-rays away from the original beam spot, producing errors in the analysis.

Electron Flight Simulator, version E lets you vary the chamber pressure, gas type, accelerating voltage, and working distance to correct for this scattering.

Key Benefits

  • Eliminate guesswork

  • Fine-tune your analysis conditions

  • Get more accurate results

Examples

Example 1 shows beam scatter in air at 1 Torr overlaid with a histogram showing intensity of the scattered beam vs. lateral position (distance of scatter).  The green center portion of the histogram represents the effective beam diameter for the specified working distance, gas pressure, gas type, and accelerating voltage
